Germany has officially passed its CanG cannabis bill in the Bundestag with 407 votes to 226, in which the possession of up to 50 grams of cannabis for personal consumption will now be legalised. Now, CanG will still have to be approved by the Bundesrat, which doesn’t have the power to block the bill entirely – but could delay its rollout.
Until then, under federal German law, prosecution is optional for possession of small amounts of any narcotics, if there is no public interest in the offence and the narcotics were only intended for the offender’s own use.
